8 self-moving mistakes to avoid (Part 1)

Moving-Disaster At some point in life each one of us faces a nightmare when moving from one place to another. The problem gets even more complex when you constantly have to move, because you still don't have a home of your own.

Possibly most of us consider that we could move all of our personal belongings by ourselves. The moving process itself is equal to endless exhaustion, and undoubtedly it's not one of the things we would gladly do. Many of us have probably tried to save money, but at the end of the day the result is almost always the same – feeling sorry for not hiring professionals instead. Ask yourselves the following – “Is saving money worth the risk of breaking expensive things, whose cost is much higher than a removals service itself? The choice, of course, is yours. The thing is that we often forget that everything with moving seems easier at first sight, however, when we start preparing for real, many unsuspected problems arise.

Some of the problems which might occur throughout the moving process, also some of the reasons not to do it by yourself, are:

1. You don't estimate accurately necessary resources for your moving project - the most common mistake is to buy fewer materials than needed, thinking that they will be enough. Don't forget that your belongings don't seem as much when they are placed in different rooms of your home – which turns out to be completely untrue when you start packing. It would be better to have more materials than less, right? You may use them later when going on a vacation for example.

2. You don't estimate the required time for completing the move, consequently resulting in cancelling some of your plans. The main reason for this will be the illusion of having fewer belongings than the actual amount.

3. You won't take into consideration the availability of an elevator, nor the items that will not fit inside. Always make sure to take the measures of the bulkier items. This way you will get an idea of what requires taking down the stairs.

4. You don't have a plan in advance, moving techniques or organisation at all. Being organised and keeping in mind problems which may arise will surely save you a lot of time and nerves.

5. You won't properly estimate the time you will need for dismantling, or you have no experience in that, which will be the reason for damaging your belongings while dismantling or moving them.

6. Incorrect placement in boxes, which will result in breaking some of your belongings or maybe even the worst – breaking all of your possessions.

7. You haven’t prepared a set with objects of common use. Do not forget to prepare a set with the essentials – depending on how you are going to travel, at what distance, whether you have children, etc. This set may include important medicine, food, water, scissors, phone pad, lantern, baby food, maps, the favourite toy of your child, etc. Make sure they can be always with you. Think of whether you may need a cooling back for some of your belongings. Do not forget the papers and enough money in cash.

8.    You haven’t double-checked the whole inventory. Preparing an inventory list is very important so you can check several times the presence of each item- after it has been packed, then after it has been loadedunloaded and unpacked. Kindly ask the removal team to patiently wait until you are ready with the checking because a possible mistake may double the work. It is much easier to find a missing item on the day of your move, then in a month at your new home.
